Elijah Odede may have only been on the pitch briefly, but the young forward delivered a commendable performance in FC Sheriff’s tough UEFA Europa League defeat to FC Utrecht.

The rising Nigerian talent scored a late goal in Thursday night’s clash in the second qualifying round, displaying his potential once more even as the Moldovan side bowed out with a 7-2 aggregate loss, Footballrover reports.

Elijah Odede Scores but Sheriff Struggles in Europa League

Despite entering the game off the bench, Odede made an immediate impact, slotting home a well-placed finish after a defensive error by the Dutch side.

His late strike was Sheriff’s only real attacking moment, coming after the team had already conceded three unanswered goals in the second leg.

The match, held at Stadion Galgenwaard, ended 4-1 in favour of Utrecht.

The Dutch side had earlier secured a 3-1 away win in Moldova, sealing a dominant 7-2 aggregate victory in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round.

Victor Jensen opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a composed finish, replicating his goal-scoring form from the first leg.

Utrecht continued their dominance into the second half, with quick goals from Siebe Horemans and Nick Viergever putting them firmly in control.

Europe Dreams End for Sheriff Despite Odede’s Spark

Souffian El Karouani was instrumental throughout the match, delivering dangerous corners that led to two of Utrecht’s goals.

He later put the game beyond any doubt with a thunderous long-range strike in the closing moments.

Sheriff, despite having promising players like Odede in their ranks, were outclassed across both legs.

Odede’s goal—a result of pressure from teammate Veaceslav Cozma—offered a glimpse of the talent the Moldovan club could rely on in future campaigns, even as their Europa League journey ended.

While their Europa League hopes have been dashed, Odede walked away with his head held high.

And with more opportunities coming his way, Odede could soon become a central figure in Sheriff’s future success, if bigger teams don’t snatch him away, though.
