Nigeria Women Football League side Edo Queens have received a significant financial boost ahead of the Super Six playoffs, following their impressive 8-0 victory over Kada Queens in the President’s Federation Cup.

The team’s success has delighted the Edo State government, which has set aside a substantial amount of money as a motivational boost for the team, Footballrover reports.

According to the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, every goal scored and every match won by Edo Queens in the competition will attract a huge financial benefit.

“I want to say that every goal scored, and every match won by Edo Queens in this competition will attract a huge financial benefit from me,” he said.

This incentive is aimed at motivating the team to perform well and bring pride to the state.

Edo Queens will participate in the Super Six playoffs alongside Heartland Queens, Confluence Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, and Rivers Angels.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from May 18th to 26th, 2024, in Yenagoa.

The sports chairman congratulated the players and coaching staff on their recent victory, stating that the team’s success has brought immense pride to the state government, the governor’s wife, and all sports fans in the state.

The Edo Sports Chairman explained that records showed Edo Queens had played all the other Super Six teams before, with each team having beaten them at least once. This meant they were familiar with each other.

According to the Sports Chairman, in football, victory isn’t always guaranteed, stressing that teams experience wins, draws, and losses.

“It is only Leverkusen FC that has gone unbeaten this season,” he said.

He encouraged the team to maintain their winning spirit and stay focused and determined ahead of the Super Six playoffs.

With their recent success and financial boost, Edo Queens are poised for a successful outing in the Super Six playoffs.
