However, the NWFL team quickly fought back after a penalty opportunity for captain Chioma Olise was saved by Sundowns’ goalkeeper Andile Dlamini.

The drama didn’t stop there, as Emem Peace Essien delivered an equaliser in the dying moments of regular time, pushing the match into extra time.

With the match delicately poised, the tension escalated as both teams battled for supremacy.

In the 101st minute, Mary Mamudu delivered the decisive blow with a simple tap-in into the roof of the post, sealing the victory and sending her side into the semi-finals as Group B winners, ahead of Egypt’s FC Masar on superior goal difference.

This stunning win marked another milestone for the Nigerian female team in the competition.

Their unbeaten streak, now at eight matches, is the longest of any Nigerian women’s club in the competition as they continue to maintain their dominance in African women’s football.

The win also spelled a historic first for Mamelodi Sundowns, who, for the first time ever, failed to overcome a Nigerian side in the competition.

Looking ahead, the NWFL champs will face TP Mazembe in the semi-finals, eager to continue their unstoppable journey towards the title.
