Ebrima Manneh, originally from Gambia, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Gambian player to represent the Nigeria national team.
He received a call-up to join the Nigeria U15 team.
Despite having a Gambian mother and a father residing in France, Manneh expressed his delight in being part of the Nigerian team, often referred to as the ‘Baby Eagles’.
Currently, he plays for Hype Buzz (HB) Academy in Abuja.
In recent news, the young players participated in their inaugural match against the Netherlands at the 2023 U16 Dream Cup International tournament held in Japan.
Unfortunately, the Nigerian U15 team, known as the Future Eagles, faced a narrow defeat in Fukushima during their first group game in the Dream Cup.
The Nigerian team experienced a somewhat nervous beginning in their match against the Netherlands, as the Dutch managed to secure a win with a goal during the first half.
Despite a shaky start, the coach, Haruna Ilerika, saw an improvement in his team’s performance during the second half. However, they were unable to equalize the score and regain a level playing field.
There are two more matches remaining for the Nigerian youngsters in the ongoing U16 Dream Cup International tournament, where they will face the teams from the United States and Japan.
But first, they are scheduled to resume their participation in the invitational tournament by facing the host country Japan on Friday, 2nd June.
