Right in the heart of South America, Nigerian forward Ebere Christian made a significant mark for Club Nacional de Football by netting his first goal for the team, with his name now in the history book of CONMEBOL.
This crucial goal came during their impressive 2-0 triumph over Venezuelan outfit Puerto Cabello in the Copa Libertadores tournament, Footballrover reports.
Christian, who recently joined the Club Nacional de Football team, displayed his prowess on the field by contributing an important goal at the Estadio Misael Delgado.
The 20-year-old forward seized the moment with a spot kick just three minutes before halftime, doubling the lead for his team to secure a vital away victory in the prestigious Copa Libertadores.
The match unfolded with intense competition as Puerto Cabello sought continental glory against the Uruguayan giants.
However, it was Club Nacional de Football who dominated proceedings, with Lucas Agustin Sanabria opening the scoring barely 11 minutes into the game.
Before the Nigerian youngster found the back of the net to double Club National’s lead.
With that precious goal, Christian Ebere became the first Nigerian to score in the CONMEBOL.
Despite Puerto Cabello’s efforts, Club Nacional de Football maintained their stronghold on the game, capitalising on their first-half lead to secure a well-deserved win.
The home side’s hopes were further dampened when Richard Celis received a second yellow card, reducing them to ten men for the remainder of the match.
Looking ahead, Puerto Cabello still has an opportunity to bounce back in the second leg, set to take place in Uruguay in two weeks’ time.
However, before the rematch, Ebere Christian and his teammates will first prepare for another challenge as they look to face Liverpool on Sunday.
