Shooting Stars defender Desmond Ojietefian has shared the secret behind their five consecutive wins, including a 1-0 triumph over Kwara United on Saturday, declaring their full commitment to securing the NPFL trophy.
The Ibadan-based club has become the talk of the Nigerian Premier Football League following their impressive five-game winning streak and clean sheets, footballrover reports.
Central to this stellar run is defender Desmond, who has disclosed the secret behind the team’s success and their ambitious plans for the NPFL trophy.
Shooting Stars’ record-breaking form
A 1-0 victory over Kwara United on Saturday marked Shooting Stars’ fifth consecutive win, an unprecedented feat in the club’s history.
Mustapha’s decisive first-half strike secured the victory during their Matchday 19 clash at the Lekan Salami Stadium, keeping Shooting Stars firmly in third place on the NPFL standings.
Reflecting on their form, Ojietefian emphasised the role of hard work and determination.
“There is no other magic than working hard. We’ve been working tirelessly hard in training; we’ve been pushing hard, and the coaches have been pushing us. That’s the secret,” the 20-year-old defender revealed.
Ojietefian, who rejoined the Ibadan-based club this season from Enyimba, has played every minute of their 19 league matches.
His commanding performances at the back have been instrumental in maintaining the clean-sheet streak, further revealing his importance to the team.
Ojietefian’s journey and title ambitions
Before rejoining the Oluyole Warriors, Ojietefian featured for the club during the 2022–23 NPFL season.
After a stint with Enyimba, where he struggled to secure a starting role, the towering centre-back has found his stride back in Ibadan.
Reflecting on playing all 19 games without a single missed minute, Desmond Ojietefian remarked,
“I feel great; I feel excited, and I thank the coach for the opportunity and believing in me. I’m overwhelmed and really happy that I could give my quota to the team,” he said.
Speaking on the team’s goals for the second half of the season, Ojietefian declared their intent to go all out for the NPFL title.
“Fans should expect more results. We are all out now, and we’re going for the trophy 100 percent,” he stated confidently.
Shooting Stars’ resurgence under coach Gbenga Ogunbote has reignited hopes of ending the club’s title drought.
With Ojietefian anchoring their defence, they appear well-positioned to challenge for the top spot in the coming months.
