Delta Queens cruised to a 3-0 win against US des Forces Armées (USFA of Burkina Faso) in the opening game of the CAF Women Champions League WAFU Zone B Qualifier.
In the first game of the sub-regional women’s football club championship taking place at the refurbished Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Alaba Olabiyi, Chinaza Agor, and Mercy Omokwo scored to seal the first three points for the Nigerian Women’s Club Champions.
The goals were scored in the 5th, 61st, and 79th minutes of the first and second halves of the match, respectively.
For a more biting attack in the second half, Vera Samuel and Mercy Omokwo were substituted for Alaba Olabiyi and Okenwa Chidera. However, Vera Samuel was later given a straight red card in the 58th minute.
The game, which started well for the home team also saw the Nigerian champion Delta Queens reduced to 10 men in the 58th minute.
However, her departure inspired her teammates, who fought hard to defeat their opponents before the final whistle.
Elated with the victory, the captain of Delta Oueens, Taiwo Afolabi, tweeted immediately after the match on her handle.
“Up Delta Queens, my first assignment as the captain of Delta Queens ends in a massive win. This is a team effort as we aim for the ultimate prize in the Wafu B Zonal Champions League Qualifiers,” she wrote
