The Nigerian men’s deaf football team, known as the Deaf Eagles, faced a tough 2-0 defeat against Ukraine during the Round of 16 in the World Deaf Football Championship held in Malaysia.
In a closely contested match, the Deaf Eagles conceded a goal just before halftime and another seven minutes into the second half, which left them with no choice than to book their flight ticket back home.
Its been a challenging journey for the Nigeria men’s deaf football team, after they managed to secure a spot in the Round of 16 at the 4th World Deaf Football Championship in Malaysia by finishing third in Group D.
Their path to the knockout stage was defined by a remarkable 5-0 victory over Australia during Matchday 3.
This decisive win earned them the three crucial points needed to advance after facing initial defeats against England and Gabon.
Their journey began with a tough loss to their African counterparts, Gabon. The Deaf Eagles then faced a challenging match against England, resulting in a 5-1 defeat.
In their Round of 16 showdown, the Deaf Eagles went head-to-head with Ukraine at the Pusat Sukan UPM Stadium.
Despite their valiant efforts, they were outplayed and, unfortunately, eliminated from the tournament.
Nevertheless, the Deaf Eagles maintain their confidence, believing that their impressive performance serves as a stepping stone for future success in the world of deaf football championship.
