When it mattered most, David Okereke stepped up again. In a thrilling Super Lig clash that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Nigerian forward delivered a decisive moment that tilted the game in Gaziantep FK’s favour.
The match had drama, goals, and a stunning turnaround—but it was Okereke’s key contribution that sealed the headlines, Footballrover reports.
David Okereke the game-changer in Gaziantep comeback win
On Sunday afternoon at the Gaziantep Stadium, David Okereke produced yet another moment of brilliance, assisting the winning goal in Gaziantep FK’s gritty 2-1 victory over Hatayspor.
The Nigerian forward now boasts ten goal contributions this season—seven goals and three assists in 24 league appearances.
The victory, part of Matchday 31 of the Super Lig, didn’t come easy.
Hatayspor took the lead in the 38th minute courtesy of Vincent Aboubakar, who calmly slotted home after a fine assist from Görkem Saglam.
Gaziantep FK, however, responded with urgency. Emmanuel Boateng equalised just before halftime, swinging the momentum back in the home side’s favour.
How Okereke inspired a comeback to remember
The second half saw Gaziantep FK grow stronger, and in the 59th minute, David Okereke turned provider once again.
His sharp vision and well-timed pass found Halil Dervişoğlu, who buried the chance to complete the comeback.
It was Okereke’s first assist since December 22, 2024, when he helped down Antalyaspor in a 2-0 win.
His latest contribution could not have come at a better time, as it not only secured the win but also pushed Gaziantep up to 7th on the table with 42 points.
Gaziantep FK will look to build on this momentum when they face Basaksehir in their next league outing.
