Stijn Francis, the agent of Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers is making a strong push for his client to finally be handed a meaningful Super Eagles chance.
With the upcoming Unity Cup in England on the horizon, the timing, according to the agent, couldn’t be better for the prolific striker to prove his worth on the international stage, Footballrover reports.
Why Now? Dessers’ golden opportunity for a Super Eagles chance
At 30 years old, Cyriel Dessers has remarkably hit a rich vein of form.
This season has seen him emerge as a potent force in European football through his impressive tally of 28 goals across 54 appearances in all competitions.
His stellar performances saw him emerge as winner of the Scottish Premiership Golden Boot for the 2024-2025 season.
Dessers outscored his rivals, including Simon Murray, to become the league’s top marksman.
This achievement is particularly significant, as he is the first Rangers player to claim this award since Alfredo Morelos.
Despite this remarkable scoring record and the prestigious Golden Boot accolade, a proper senior call-up to the Super Eagles has remained elusive for Cyriel Dessers.
His international experience with Nigeria has been limited to friendly matches, where he has earned six caps and scored two goals.
His last appearance was in the 0-2 defeat to Mali in March of the previous year.
Agent’s Plea: Time for Dessers to seize his Super Eagles chance
As the Super Eagles prepare for the Unity Cup, they will be without several key players, creating potential openings in the squad.
Dessers’ agent believes this presents the ideal scenario for his client to stake his claim.
Nigeria is set to compete against Ghana and the winner of the match between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago in this tournament.
The agent emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating,
“You have to make good use of every opportunity, and this should be his time because he is coming into the end of the season with a run of goals that hasn’t happened before now. We wait and see how it all goes with the new coach.”
It’s well obvious that Cyriel Dessers deserves a genuine place in the Super Eagles squad and has worked hard to earn it based on his recent prolific form.
