Southampton, on the other hand, have been in fantastic form recently, going undefeated in their last five matches, including 2-0 victories against Everton and Norwich.

Following their two first-half goals, the Villains squandered no time in the second half, grabbing two more goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes through Coutinho and Ings to seal the victory and send Southampton to their first defeat in six games.

Watkins led the attack for Villa today and was a constant thorn in the side of Southampton’s defence.

His early goal got the ball rolling, and he ended up with two shots on goal, three vital passes, and three aerial duels by the end of the game.

In what was an excellently display, the ex-Brentford forward also contributed defensively, with a block, interception, and two clearances.

Aston Villa’s magnificent display came to an end at the final whistle.

Villa moves up to 11th place in the table as a result of their dominant performance, putting their negative goal differential back to zero.

Southampton are in ninth place, two points ahead of their opponents, but after five games without defeat, this performance implies that their form is about to deteriorate.
