In the wake of a troubling disciplinary incident, Club Brugge coach Nicky Hayen has engaged in crucial discussions with Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika.
Following Onyedika’s latest red card during the UEFA Champions League match against AC Milan, concerns about his composure on the pitch have reached a boiling point, footballrover reports.
Hayen’s remarks about their meeting reveal a mixture of concern and determination to resolve the situation, hinting at deeper issues that could impact Onyedika’s future with the team.
The incident unfolded in the 40th minute when the Nigerian midfielder’s reckless challenge on AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders led to a quick decision from referee Felix Zwayer after a VAR review.
The outcome—a straight red card—shows Onyedika’s alarming tendency to find himself on the wrong side of the rules, marking his second dismissal in just four matches this season.

This setback came on the heels of another red card against Charleroi and an emotional outburst over a substitution against KVC Westerlo.
Raphael Onyedika’s discipline concerns raise questions for the team’s future plans
Hayen characterised their conversation as “constructive,” emphasising the need for the Super Eagles star to temper his aggression during important moments.
The Club Brugge coach firmly believes that the talented midfielder can harness his potential without resorting to reckless tackles.
Hayen, who was quoted by Het Nieuwsbald, stated,
“There are things that need to be resolved very urgently. We hope that it will work out. Rapha also asked to train on his day off. So the eagerness is there, and we like to see that.
“We have offered him solutions and made it clear that he does not always have to go into an all-or-nothing duel at certain times. He is already an impressive guy; he does not always need that.”
As a result of Tuesday’s disciplinary action, Onyedika will miss the upcoming match against Aston Villa as the club pursues their Champions League ambitions.
