Clinton Jephta, Enyimba rising star, has opened up about the key to his brilliant debut performance, revealing the motivation that drove him to score a brace in his team’s 3-1 victory over Heartland FC.
The People’s Elephants marched into the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday and overturned an early setback to secure all three points, thanks in large part to Jephta’s brilliant performance, Footballrover reports.
Heartland drew first blood just eight minutes in when Suraju Lawal rounded Enyimba goalkeeper to put the home side ahead.
The tension mounted for the visiting former NPFL champions until Enyimba’s debutant substitute, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, levelled the game with his first touch, just 12 minutes after entering the field.
Jephta, a former Niger Tornadoes forward, then turned the game on its head with a stunning volley 20 minutes from full time, propelling Enyimba into the lead.
But the young forward wasn’t done yet. He doubled his tally in the 83rd minute, coolly slotting home to seal the 3-1 victory for Enyimba and announce his arrival in style.
