Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom made a significant impact for Ajax, scoring a brace in their impressive 4-1 victory over Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Akpom had already found the net in a 2-0 win against Volendam earlier in the week, but Coach Van’t Schip decided to have him start on the bench against Heerenveen at Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday, Footballrover reports
Ajax dominated the first half, while Heerenveen showed glimpses of potential. In the 42nd minute, Ajax surged ahead 2-0 with goals from Steven Bergwijn and Brian Brobbey.
However, just before halftime, Heerenveen pulled one back with a well-placed header by Luuk Brouwers in the 45th minute.
At halftime, Ajax held a slender lead. In the second half, Heerenveen looked more threatening with seven goal attempts.
Akpom was brought into the game in the 73rd minute to boost Ajax’s attack, and he delivered.
In the 84th minute, the 28-year-old striker scored Ajax’s third goal, reacting swiftly to a rebound in the box and heading it home, providing a cushion for the Dutch giants.
In stoppage time, Akpom notched his second goal of the game and Ajax’s fourth.

The Forward received a pass from Steven Berghuis in the box and cleanly finished it into the Heerenveen goal, sealing a 4-1 victory for Ajax.
It’s three goals in seven appearances so far for the Nigerian hitman, and he will surely be hoping for more when Ajax host Brighton in the Europa League on Thursday night.
