Chuba Akpom has officially joined Ipswich Town from Ajax on a season-long loan, ending days of transfer drama in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Nigerian striker turned down late offers from rivals to commit to the Tractor Boys — and he insists the move “makes perfect sense“, Footballrover reports.
Ipswich Beat Rivals to Secure Chuba Akpom’s Signature
Akpom, 29, arrives from Eredivisie giants Ajax after spending the second half of last season on loan with Ligue 1 club Lille, where he scored three goals and provided one assist in 14 league appearances.
The deal wasn’t straightforward. Middlesbrough had shown interest, while Birmingham City appeared set to land him after a completed medical and a €6 million bid accepted by Ajax.

But Akpom remained determined to join Ipswich, who had also met Birmingham on the opening day of the Championship in a 1-1 draw.
This transfer marks a return to English football for the former Arsenal youth product.
Chuba Akpom becomes Ipswich’s sixth signing of the summer window, adding more attacking firepower to their promotion push.
“I was really excited when I heard of the interest, and I’m delighted to have joined a club with such big ambitions,” Akpom told TownTV.
“I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense.”
Ajax Experience and a Winning Mentality
Akpom reflected on his career so far, claiming that he has enjoyed many good experiences over the last few years, both at the Eredivisie side and while playing in the Champions League with Lille.

He felt that all of these had improved him as a player and helped shape the person he had become.
He also promised to bring a strong winning mindset to Portman Road, adding that he is here to do as much as he can to help the team, both in the changing room and on the pitch.
