Fresh off winning their fifth straight Liga BPI title, Benfica were expected to dominate Valadares Gaia once more, having defeated them 3-0 in their previous outing—where Christy Ucheibe also got on the scoresheet.

But the visitors came for revenge, to spoil the party in this cup encounter.

Carolina Santiago gave Valadares Gaia a surprise lead in the 23rd minute, which they held onto going into the halftime break.

Things went from bad to worse for Benfica as Erica Parkinson added a second goal just two minutes into the second half, leaving the home fans stunned.

But it’s not game over for Benfica.

Benfica fights back with Ucheibe leading the charge

Trailing by two goals, Christy Ucheibe stepped up once again. In the 57th minute, she pulled one back for the Eagles with a well-taken strike, injecting belief back into the team.
