New Caretaker: Its now official and confirmed, Frank Lampard has been appointed as new Chelsea head coach until the end of the season.
The West London side announced on Thursday afternoon that Frank Lampard has made a return back to the club to become their caretaker manager.
Recall that the Blues fired Graham Potter on Sunday evening after a disastrous six months at Stamford Bridge and initially appointed one of his former aides, Bruno Saltor, as interim manager.
The West London side, though, proceeded this week to reassign Lampard, announcing on Thursday that he will serve in that capacity while the hunt for a permanent manager goes on.
Lampard, one of Chelsea’s greatest players and the club’s all-time leading scorer, previously served as the team’s full-time manager from 2019 to 2021.
Despite a positive first season blending academy players after a transfer ban, the Blues struggled in his second season, and he was fired, with Thomas Tuchel coming in to replace him.
He began working for Everton at the beginning of 2022 and guided them to Premier League survival before being fired in January while the Toffees were once more on the brink of being demoted.
Frank Lampard promised to give it his all and said that Chelsea is also his club now that his return to Stamford Bridge was assured.
“I will do my best, then we will see what happens. So it won’t be my decision [long-term]. I understand I will be asked a lot, I’ve got my eyes open. I’m excited as there’s lot of talent here. It was easy to accept this job for me; this is my club”.
Meanwhile, Footballrover understands that the club will continue to meet other managers as candidates for long term job.
Chelsea owners Egbhali & Boehly said;
“As we continue our exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. Frank has all of qualities we need to drive us to the finish line”.
