Desiree Scott’s heartbreaking absence from the 2023 World Cup

Scott, who plays for Canada and the USA’s National Women Soccer League (NWSL) side, Kansas City Current, was said to have suffered a knee injury at the end of the 2022 season that required surgery but got an invitation to Coach Bev Priestman’s 25-player pre-tournament world cup camp.

Desiree Scott, nicknamed “Destroyer” because of her brutal midfield role on the field of play, lamented her absence from the 2023 World Cup on her Instagram Page.

She expressed her heartbreak at the realization that she would not be able to be a part of the World Cup that summer, despite putting in every effort and making a final push in her rehabilitation process to try and make it.

She acknowledged that missing the tournament would be one of the most challenging things she had to do.

However, she also noted that her rehabilitation process had taught her an important lesson, which was that she still had a deep love for the game and understood that nothing valuable comes without difficulty.
