Despite being 3-0 down, Cameroon won the Afcon 2021 third-place play-off, defeating Burkina Faso on penalties to claim the spot.
Yago startled the hosts by scoring the game’s first goal barely 24 minutes in. Burkina Faso took a 2-0 lead thanks to an own goal by Onana, before Djibril Ouattara made it 3-0 just five minutes into the second half.
Since Opta began collecting data in 2010, André Onana is the only goalie to concede an own goal in an Africa Cup of Nations match.

However, Cameroon’s second-half turnaround started late in the game with Stéphane Bahoken’s goal in the 71st minute.
The 29-year-old Angers attacker took advantage of a goalmouth scuffle to score from close distance past goalkeeper Farid Ouedraogo.
Then Man of the tournament – Vincent Aboubakar scored a brace in quick succession to bring the game back to life.

With just five minutes remaining, Aboubakar made it two for the Afcon hosts, heading in a Nicolas Ngamaleu corner kick.
The comeback was completed in the final seconds of the game when the former FC Porto player took advantage of a mistake by Ouedraogo to squeeze in the ball into the net – a finish that elicited loud applause from the home crowd.
The winner was determined by kicks from the penalty spot. There, Onana transformed from villain to hero by blocking Ibrahim Toure’s kick and denying Kamou Malo’s team a shot at a bronze medal.
