While the slogan “no gree is anybody” is still making waves, especially in Super Eagles camp, it seems the Cameroon FA has decided to take it a step further by choosing to go above and beyond with Samuel Eto’o.
The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has defied Samuel Eto’o’s resignation, insisting the legendary footballer stays at the helm, Footballrover reports.
Eto’o, a four-time African Player of the Year, tendered his resignation following Cameroon’s early exit from the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
FECAFOOT’s executive committee convened in Yaoundé to dissect the team’s performance, where Eto’o surprisingly offered to step down, encouraging others to follow suit.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, the committee unanimously rejected Eto’o’s resignation, expressing more confidence in his leadership.
A statement released by FECAFOOT reads that,
“The President’s resignation was unanimously rejected, renewing their confidence in him to continue the reconstruction and development of Cameroon football.”
This decision comes amidst swirling allegations of match-fixing, illegal conduct, and corruption surrounding Eto’o’s presidency.
Despite these controversies, FECAFOOT seems determined to uphold his plan for Cameroonian football’s revival, as outlined in December 2021.
