Following Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal, the Englishman began negotiations with the Blues on Wednesday, and Footballrover gathered that things went smoothly and he has been given the opportunity to succeed the German at Stamford Bridge.

The 47-year-old personally accepted to take over and took time to shake hands on the agreement as paperwork was later prepared.

Footballrover understands that Chelsea pulled all strings for the transaction to close on Thursday; therefore, there was no complications. Potter will now assume leadership ahead of this weekend’s Derby match vs Fulham.

As was reported on Wednesday, Chelsea owner – Todd Boehly, had been in charge of the search since the first indications of problems with Tuchel.

Boehly and the other members of the club’s management have stated that Potter was always their first option.

After their initial encounter, the Blues knew they had found their new coach, and Boehly always desired a prompt appointment, which is how things have turned out.

Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone, and Ruben Amorim were among those mentioned, but Mauricio Pochettinoβ€”who has been jobless since leaving Paris Saint-Germainβ€”was the other serious candidate.

However, Boehly and the rest of the board were so thrilled with Potter throughout the interview process that they decided to hire him immediately after the meeting.

Potter had a release clause in his contract, but then, Brighton will have to start their own hunt for a new coach now in order to replace him.

Graham Potter signed a five-year contract proposal with Chelsea and will now replace Thomas Tuchel.

And it’s not finished yet; Todd Boehly is aiming to appoint a new director of football as quickly as possible.

Todd Boehly reportedly knew a lot about Graham Potter, his ideas, philosophies, and tactics when he chose to sign Cucurella from Brighton this summer.
