The race to sign Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) record-breaking goalkeeper Amas Obasogie from Bendel Insurance is heating up, with Rivers United emerging as the frontrunners.
Obasogie, who enjoyed a stellar season with Bendel Insurance, is a highly sought-after talent following his record of 18 clean sheets in the 2023–24 season, Footballrover reports.
This accomplishment confirmed his place as one of the top goalkeepers in NPFL history.
Reports suggest that alongside Rivers United, teams like Remo Stars, Enyimba, and Plateau United are all vying for the goalkeeper’s signature.

In response to a question posed by a prominent NPFL journalist regarding a possible transfer to Rivers United, Obasogie replied with a smiley followed by “On my way, boss.”
This indirect confirmation will surely send so much excitement to the faces of fans of the Pride of Rivers.
The potential signing of Obasogie would be a huge boost for the Port Harcourt outfit, considering the fact that their new head coach, Finidi George, is looking to rebuild the team following a lacklustre 2023–24 season that saw them finish in a disappointing eighth place.
