In a compelling analysis, Seigha Oruwari delves into Bayelsa United’s remarkable resurgence and recent form under Meremu Okara’s leadership.
Highlighting their newfound dominance in midfield and attacking prowess, Oruwari’s insights paint a picture of a team transformed from strugglers to contenders, Footballrover reports.
Resurgence Under Meremu Okara
Bayelsa United’s recent form has come as a shock to many commentators and pundits, especially as they had been terrible for the majority of the first half of the season.
It turns out that Meremu Okara seems to have found a pattern at a time that couldn’t have been more crucial.
Taking over a team that lacked confidence and making daring changes that would have been considered to be either absolute genius or madness (and no in-betweens), he has gotten the backing of fans and the board alike with results that would get the nod from most critics.
The away win over Akwa United, however impressive, was just one example of how Bayelsa United have, in fact, dominated the midfield and created chances with quick decisive passes and effective pressing in the middle third.

Something that seemed to have been missing before.
Tactical Shifts and Player Dynamics
Since the departure of Mizo, the responsibility of goal scoring has now shifted dramatically from the lone striker sketch to a more all-inclusive picture, with shots quite flying from all corners of the attacking third towards goal.
There have been more shots from midfielders and more own goals (for the opponents) than ever this season, as pressure seems to be constant from the flanks with dangerous low crosses.

The team finally escaped the relegation zone for the first time since MD 5 and are looking more confident, especially with a more solid backline duo of Adekunle (an aggressive stopper) and Tarabina (a libero) and the most recent addition of former Akwa United 3rd choice goalkeeper, God’sgift Elkanah, who has had two clean sheets in a row, making outstanding saves in the process (including that incredible double at Akwa).
Things are looking really good now for the team, as they have to face a Doma side that have lost three of their last four and are yet to win a match away this season.
