Atalanta boss, Coach Gian Piero Gasperini, has redirected focus from Ademola Lookman’s scoring feat against Bologna to the team’s overall performance, despite the Nigerian’s goal in their 2-1 loss at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.
Lookman, returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria, marked his Serie A comeback with a goal, yet Gasperini emphasised the team’s collective effort, citing their nine wins in 11 games during Lookman’s absence, Footballrover reports.
“Without him, we had nine wins in 11 games. This just proves the individual doesn’t make all the difference,” he claimed.
Gasperini acknowledged Atalanta’s commendable first-half display but expressed regret over conceding two quick goals after halftime, highlighting the missed opportunities and the frustrating penalty call.
He also admitted with bitterness that within the space of three minutes, his boys squandered what could have been a promising match for them.

Looking ahead, Gasperini will surely need the Super Eagles star to play a crucial role in upcoming fixtures, including the Europa League clash against Sporting Lisbon on March 6 and Serie A encounters against Juventus and Fiorentina on March 10 and 17, respectively.
After that, the Bergamo outfit in Serie A will have to face Juventus and Fiorentina in their upcoming league matches on March 10 and 17, respectively, before the Nigerian international will go back home for an international break.
