Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has drawn an intriguing comparison between Bukayo Saka and Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, urging the young winger to mirror the qualities that made the Al-Nassr star one of football’s all-time greats.
With Ronaldo’s remarkable career as a benchmark, Arteta believes that Saka has the potential to achieve similar success if he follows the right path, Footballrover reports.
In a recent interview, Arteta spoke about Saka’s promising future, noting the importance of mentality, skill, and team chemistry in reaching Ronaldo’s level.
The Arsenal boss highlighted how the Portugal icon’s relentless work ethic and mental fortitude played a vital role in his rise to the top.
Bukayo Saka’s path to greatness: Can he match Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy?
He emphasised that Saka already possesses the right mindset and plays in an environment that can foster his growth.
Speaking to reporters, the 42-year-old Arsenal boss said,
“To look is always good! And probably, the way Cristiano started his career and when he joined United, nobody probably expected in the first few seasons he’d be able to do that”.
“But again, it was about his mentality, his work ethic, how he developed his skill, his chemistry with his team, and to play in a team that has the capacity as well to be dominant.
That is very, very important. I think B has got that context, and if he is aiming for that, I think it is a positive thing.”
Saka has certainly been in dazzling form lately, contributing seven goals and assists across Arsenal’s last three matches.
His most recent performance, a stunning display against West Ham, saw him score once and provide two assists in a commanding 5-2 victory at the London Stadium.
Saka will be hoping to continue his impressive run and take another step towards emulating the success of his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, when Arsenal tackles Manchester United later today.
