A pulsating encounter at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 saw Angola emerge victorious over Mauritania in a dramatic 3-2 comeback, propelling them to the top of Group D.

The first half unfolded as a tense tactical battle, with both teams trading blows, Footballrover reports.

Gelson Dala opened the scoring for Angola in the 30th minute, but Mauritania refused to lie down, drawing level through Sidi Amar Bouana just before the break.

The second half erupted into a goal-fest, with five goals crammed into a breathtaking eight-minute spell.

Dala, on fire tonight, bagged his second in the 50th minute, followed by a quickfire strike from Gilberto three minutes later to put Angola firmly in control at 3-1.

However, Mauritanian hopes flickered back to life when Aboubakary Koita pulled one back in the 58th minute.

Despite a valiant effort, the Mauritanians couldn’t find the equaliser, succumbing to a thrilling 3-2 defeat.

This victory puts Angola firmly in the driver’s seat of Group D, with four points from two matches.

Burkina Faso trails closely behind with the same points, while Algeria occupies third place with two.

Mauritania remains at the bottom without a point but can take solace in the fighting spirit displayed tonight.
