Alex Iwobi endured a heartbreaking week that left him devastated both on the international and club fronts.

It was with a heavy heart the Super Eagles midfielder took to social media to express his frustration after suffering two painful setbacks in just one week, Footballrover reports.

Heartbreaks in one week: From World Cup qualifiers to FA Cup woes

Alex Iwobi’s rough spell began during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

He featured prominently in the Super Eagles’ fixtures against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, but despite their efforts, the team only managed to collect four points.

In the crucial match against Zimbabwe, Iwobi had opportunities to change the outcome of the game for Nigeria but couldn’t capitalise, leading to a frustrating 1-1 draw.

Still reeling from that disappointment, the 28-year-old returned to club duties with Fulham.

Manager Marco Silva included him in the starting XI as Fulham faced Crystal Palace in the Emirates FA Cup.

Unfortunately, it turned into another painful night as Fulham suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat, eliminating them from the competition.

Eberechi Eze and Crystal Palace compound Alex Iwobi’s misery

Iwobi and his Nigerian compatriot Calvin Bassey were handed starting roles against Palace, but the game quickly turned into a nightmare for Fulham.

Another Nigerian, Eberechi Eze, was the chief tormentor, opening the scoring with a stunning goal in the 34th minute before assisting Ismaila Sarr just four minutes later.

Things went from bad to worse when substitute Eddie Nketiah fired in a third goal, sealing Fulham’s fate.

Bassey played the full 90 minutes, while Iwobi was substituted in the 82nd minute for Thomas Cairney.

Following the crushing defeat, Iwobi shared his emotions on X, writing, “Gutted… Appreciate The Support.”

His words captured the pain of a player who gave his all but ended up with nothing but disappointment.
