Ahead of the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Akwa United has confirmed that all its registered players have passed their medical examinations.
Dr. Obot Jackson, the club’s head of the medical department, confirmed that the squad is in peak physical condition and ready for the upcoming season, footballrover reports.
He shared that each player underwent a thorough electrocardiogram (ECG) test to assess their heart’s electrical signals, ensuring they were fit for the rigours of competitive football.
Dr. Jackson emphasised the importance of these tests, not just for the players’ well-being but also for the club’s preparation.
Doctor Jackson noted that it was necessary for the club to know the heart condition of the players before fielding them for matches.
Doctor Jackson mentioned that the test was conducted in accordance with the NPFL’s guidelines and noted with enthusiasm that all the players were in sound health and fit to compete at any level of football in Nigeria.
The doctor noted that the test was important to individual players and the club, so it was necessary to confirm that everyone was in good condition to play.
”If during the examination we observed any issue about a particular player, it’s our place to offer professional advice, but we are delighted that they all came out clean,” the doctor said.
Akwa United, the 2021 league champions, will kick off their season with an away match against Lobi Stars on September 7, 2024.
The Promise Keepers battled with relegation all through last season, finishing in 16th place with 48 points, and will be joping to do better this time around.
