Akor Adams, the promising Montpellier forward, has unveiled a unique strategy to secure a spot in the Super Eagles.
Unlike many players who wait passively for a national team call-up, the Ligue 1 star is taking matters into his own hands by focusing on one crucial aspect—his club performance, Footballrover reports.
But how exactly does he plan to force his way into Nigeria’s senior squad? The answer may surprise you.
Adams, currently making waves in Ligue 1 with Montpellier, is determined to catch the attention of Super Eagles selectors through consistent, top-level performances.
Akor Adams’ commitment to Montpellier as a path to the Super Eagles
The 24-year-old has made it clear that his primary goal is to represent Nigeria at the highest level.
In a recent interview, he explained how playing for the Super Eagles has always been a dream for him, as it is for many footballers from the country.
“In as much as it is a dream for every Nigerian footballer to play for the Super Eagles, it is for me as well,” he told Tribal Football.
While the prestigious call-up remains his ultimate ambition, Adams insists that his current focus is on improving his game with Montpellier.
He believes that strong club performances will ultimately pave the way for international recognition.
“I try to focus on what I can do for my club and continue to work hard on my game, which to me is very important. It will be sure a privilege to be able to represent Nigeria at the senior level. So, I just wait for the time,” he said.
Despite the competition among the Super Eagles’ strikers, Adams remains confident that staying focused on his development will provide him with the opportunity he seeks.
“I will really acknowledge that Nigeria has some top strikers right now. Football is a game of chance, and you have to keep improving your game and trust your own process, which I do.
“If the chance comes, I just have to be ready to perform, which is the most important,” he stressed.
With three goals and two assists in eleven matches this season, Adams is clearly on the right path.
And guess what? He’s less concerned with when the call-up might come but rather ensuring he’s ready when it does.
“I am not just concerned with when it is coming; I am concerned about if I am prepared to take it. But credit to all the strikers who have been doing well for Nigeria and their clubs,” the young forward concluded.
