Nigerian forward Akor Adams, who had just been named Montpellier’s Player of the Month for his outstanding October performance, faced a tough defeat at the hands of PSG.
The 23-year-old clinched the Player of the Month award after fierce competition with teammates Joris Chotard and Mousa Tamari, footballrover reports
Entering the match against Ligue 1 defending champions, Akor Adams had high expectations, aiming to match Kylian Mbappe’s impressive 10-goal record for the season.
However, the game at the Parc des Princes took a different turn as PSG asserted their dominance, securing a resounding 3-0 victory. Goals from Lee, Zaire-Emery, and Vitinha propelled PSG to the top of Ligue 1.
Lee initiated the scoring just 10 minutes into the game, capitalizing on a clever feint by Mbappe from Hakimi’s pass. The South Korean international expertly found the top corner, leaving Montpellier trailing.
Despite their control, PSG only led by one goal at halftime. In the second half, any hopes of a Montpellier comeback were dashed during an exceptional eight-minute spell.
Dembele set up Zaire-Emery, who netted a powerful shot, and substitute Vitinha sealed the victory with Hakimi’s assist.
With these crucial three points, PSG claimed the top spot in Ligue 1, although Nice had a chance to challenge for the lead in their upcoming match against Rennes on Sunday.
Akor Adams, currently occupying the second spot in Ligue 1’s scoring chart with seven goals, was substituted in the 83rd minute after a challenging match.
Montpellier now find themselves in 11th place after the heavy defeat, just two points above the relegation zone.
While Luis Enrique’s team will shift their focus to European competition, facing Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Montpellier, on the other hand, will aim to bounce back when they host Nice in their next Ligue 1 match next Friday.
