Sevilla have once again strengthened their attacking options with the signing of yet another Nigerian striker, Akor Adams, from French club Montpellier HSC.
The 24-year-old has penned a contract with the Spanish La Liga side until 2029, marking a new chapter in his football career, Footballrover reports.
After showing early promise in Ligue 1, Adams now faces the challenge of rediscovering his form at the Los Rojiblancos alongside fellow Nigerian stars Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Akor Adams’ journey from Ligue 1 to Sevilla
The move to the Red and Whites comes after a fluctuating stint in Ligue 1 for Akor.
The former Nigeria U20 international made an exciting start at Montpellier, scoring seven goals in his first nine games.
However, his form dipped significantly, as he managed just four goals in his next 38 league matches.
This season, Adams has netted three goals in 15 appearances, but he was benched for Montpellier’s recent clash against Monaco.
Despite his struggles, Adams’ potential remains undeniable.
Known for his physical presence and goal-scoring ability, he first made a mark in Europe with Norway’s Sogndal IL, where he scored 16 goals in 56 appearances.
A move to Lillestrøm SK followed in 2022, where he impressed with 28 goals in 50 games.
His remarkable performances secured a transfer to Montpellier in 2023, and now, Sevilla have placed their faith in him to reignite his career.
Sevilla’s Nigerian connection: Ejuke, Iheanacho, and Adams
Adams’ arrival at Sevilla strengthens the club’s Nigerian connection, as he joins compatriots Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho.
While Ejuke has been a steady presence since joining in 2024, Iheanacho’s future at the club remains uncertain, with rumors of a potential departure before the winter transfer window closes.
Adams’ addition reflects Sevilla’s intent to rejuvenate their attacking line. His move also shows the club’s belief in his ability to overcome recent challenges and deliver in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
A new chapter in La Liga
From his humble beginnings at Jamba Football Academy in Nigeria to representing the Super Eagles at the U-20 World Cup in 2019, the striker has steadily climbed the ranks.
Now in La Liga, Adams has the perfect platform to rediscover his form and make his mark in Spanish football.
We’ll continue to monitor the 24-year-old as he takes on this new challenge, hoping to shine and secure his place in the La Liga spotlight.
