Akor Adams, Ejuke announce AFCON 2025 readiness in style, fire Sevilla to victory with goals and assists

Akor Adams celebrates after scoring for Sevilla in La Liga

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams showed he is ready for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 after scoring and providing two assists to inspire Sevilla to a well-deserved 4-0 victory over Real Oviedo on Sunday afternoon.

The Nigerian striker opened the scoring and later created Sevilla’s second and third goals during their La Liga Matchday 16 clash at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, delivering his most complete performance in recent weeks, Footballrover reports.

Akor Adams sparks Sevilla win with early breakthrough

A quick one-time pass from Lucien Agoumé released Akor Adams on the counter, and the Super Eagles star finished calmly just four minutes into the game to give Sevilla an early lead.

The goal ended a nine-game scoring drought for Adams and marked his first for the club since his strikes against Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona earlier in the season.

He now has six goal contributions for Sevilla this campaign, with three goals and three assists across all competitions.

Eighteen minutes later, Adams turned provider, setting up Djibril Sow to double Sevilla’s advantage with a well-timed pass inside the box.

Akor was not done yet, as he provided the assist for Batista Mendy just six minutes into the second half to extend the home side’s lead to 3–0.

The 25-year-old forward brings pace and physical presence to Sevilla’s attack, combining sharp turns with a constant desire to run in behind opposing defenders.

He also prefers receiving the ball to his feet, a detail Sevilla’s midfielders continue to adapt to.

However, Adams has been caught offside 22 times this season—the highest figure across Europe’s top five leagues—with three goals ruled out as a result.

He falls into the offside trap roughly every 34 minutes. Still, his goal and assist in this match give him renewed confidence, while Sevilla benefit from a timely return to form.

While Akor stole the spotlight, his compatriot Chidera Ejuke came off the bench to also score.

Alexis Sanchez made way for Ejuke in the 77th minute, and just 12 minutes after coming on, the Nigerian winger found the net to wrap up a 4-0 victory.

The 27-year-old didn’t just score his first goal of the season—he also completed the most dribbles in the match (6), despite being on the field for only 13 minutes.

On top of that, he won the most duels in the game, with a total of 7.

The visitors finished the game a man down, as David Carmo received two yellow cards, resulting in a red with just seven minutes remaining.

With confidence restored, Adams and Ejuke now head into Super Eagles camp ahead of AFCON 2025 on a positive note.

Nigerian players are hitting form at the right moment before the tournament, with Victor Osimhen and Calvin Bassey both on the scoresheet recently, Samuel Chukwueze providing an assist, Adams and Ejuke now adding their names to the list.
