Afcon trophy is what I want to win the most – Mohamed Salah

Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah has voiced his determination to win the Afcon 2021 trophy with his national team side after defeating Ivory Coast on Wednesday to get to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Salah struck the game-winning penalty at the Japoma Stadium in Douala, advancing the North Africans to the tournament’s quarter-finals.

The game ended 0-0 and after extra time, Abo Gabal, who replaced injured Mohamed El Shennawy, deflected a careless effort from Ivorian defender – Bailly onto the crossbar, and Salah scored the game-winning penalty from his typical long run-up.Afcon trophy is what I want to win the most says Mohamed Salah

The 29-year-old forward stated that the Afcon 2021 trophy is the one that means the most to him, and that the Pharaohs will compete for it.

While speaking shortly after the game, Mo Salah told Sky;

I want to win something with the national team. It is my country – what I love the most. This trophy would be the closest one to my heart. We were unlucky to lose it in 2017. We have to fight for it.”

I lost it in Gabon 2017 against Cameroon in the final, but I can assure you that it is the trophy that I want to win the most. I work to win it,” the Egypt captain added.

The seven-time champions, will be facing their North African counterpart, Morocco in a thrilling quarter-final on Sunday at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.
