AFCON 2023: Morocco Mauls Tanzania as DR Congo & Zambia Share Spoils in Group F Thriller

The Atlas Lions of Morocco roared into AFCON 2023 with a commanding 3-0 victory over Tanzania, while DR Congo and Zambia battled to a 1-1 draw in Group F’s opening clashes.

In the opening match of Group F at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco dominated Tanzania with a resounding 3-0 victory, Footballrover reports.

Moroccan Mayhem:

Captain Romain Ghanem Paul Saiss led the way with a goal in the first half, followed by contributions from Youseff En-Neysri and Azzedine Ounahi in the second half.

Saiss, the skilled midfielder from Al – Shabab in the Saudi Pro League, netted the first goal in the 30th minute.

The Atlas Lions capitalized on Tanzania being reduced to ten men in the second half, securing two more goals to secure a decisive win.

En-Neysri of Sevilla and Ounahi of Olympique de Marseille added to the scoreline in the 77th and 80th minutes, respectively.

Congo Keeps Pace:

Meanwhile, in another Group F clash, DR Congo and Zambia battled to a 1-1 draw.

Kings Kangwa of Red Star Belgrade opened the scoring for Zambia in the 23rd minute, assisted by Patson Daka of Leicester City.

However, Yoane Wissa, the French-born DR Congo international playing for Brentford in the English Premier League, leveled the score in the 27th minute.

Despite both teams remaining scoreless in the second half, the match concluded in a 1-1 draw at AFCON 2023.

Looking Ahead:

Morocco sits atop Group F after day one, brimming with confidence for their upcoming clash against DR Congo.

Zambia will be looking to bounce back against Tanzania, hoping to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
