Ademola Lookman has made an immediate impression at Atlético Madrid, delivering a goal and an assist in a commanding 5–0 win over Real Betis in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.

The Nigerian forward’s debut not only helped secure a dominant victory but also earned praise from his new teammates and head coach Diego Simeone, Footballrover reports.

Joining Atlético Madrid from Atalanta during the winter transfer window, Lookman arrived with high expectations.

The Super Eagles forward wasted no time justifying the club’s faith. He scored Atlético’s third goal and set up the fourth, guiding the team to a decisive win at the Estadio de La Cartuja and booking a place in the semi-finals.

The 28-year-old’s goal was a neatly taken finish on a counter-attack, marking the 100th of his professional career.

Later, he displayed his playmaking ability by delivering a precise pass to Antoine Griezmann, who converted Atlético’s fourth goal with a clinical strike.

Lookman was in action for 79 minutes before being replaced by Thiago Almada, who completed the 5–0 rout shortly after.

Reflecting on his debut, the Nigerian international expressed delight at how smoothly he has settled in at the club.

“Very proud, very happy for my debut, especially for the performance of the team. The team, everyone in the dressing room welcomed me in a very affectionate way. They made it easy for me.

That’s why I’m very happy. I’ll try to be regular in the season. Everyone works hard. There are things that can be improved, but my intention is to continue working to improve, which is the important thing,” Lookman said as quoted by Football Espana.

The forward’s combination of finishing, vision, and creativity adds depth to the team and makes him one to watch as the season progresses.
