Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman had an impressive outing on Wednesday evening, providing an assist in Atalanta’s Champions League defeat.
Lookman came off the bench to provide an assist, but it wasn’t enough as Atalanta fell 3-2 to Athletic Club, Footballrover reports.
Ademola Lookman Sparks Atalanta with Quick Champions League Assist
The 28-year-old recorded his second Champions League assist after entering the match in the 66th minute, replacing Nicola Zalewski. It took him just 22 minutes to set up Atalanta’s second goal.
His previous goal contribution in the competition came on November 26, 2025, when he scored and assisted in Frankfurt’s 3-0 victory.
Lookman had recently returned from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he helped the Super Eagles finish in third place.
The winger concluded the tournament with five goal contributions—two goals and three assists.
However, the full-time whistle sounded at the Stadio di Bergamo as Athletic secured a remarkable 3-2 win over Atalanta.
In a memorable Champions League shock, Atalanta opened the scoring in the 16th minute through a simple header from Scamacca.
The hosts then wasted a series of chances before halftime, including two disallowed goals, one of which saw Scamacca beat Unai Simon.
Athletic Club Stun Atalanta in Bergamo Thriller
After the break, Athletic responded strongly, equalizing in the 58th minute when Navarro cleverly released Guruzeta, who raced through on goal to finish past Carnesecchi.
From there, Robert Navarro took center stage, delivering a pinpoint cross for substitute Nico Serrano to volley in the 70th minute, igniting a thrilling finale.
Navarro soon turned provider into scorer, netting Athletic’s third off a swift counterattack just four minutes later. Atalanta kept faint hopes alive, pulling one back in the 88th minute after Lookman set up Krstovic.
La Dea now slip out of the top eight, sitting 13th with 13 points, tied with several other teams.
Athletic, meanwhile, strengthen their push for the playoffs, rising to 23rd place with eight points.
Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen played the full match as Galatasaray battled to a 1–1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Although he did not score, the striker delivered an impactful performance, creating a clear chance and providing two key passes that troubled the opposition.
Fresh from helping Nigeria claim bronze at the 2025 AFCON, Osimhen continues to show his importance at club level.
He has already scored six goals in five Champions League appearances this season.
Head coach Okan Buruk praised his overall influence, highlighting his pressing, work rate, and ability to elevate the team beyond just goals.
