Over 20,000 Olympiakos fans chanted and lit flares in the air as they welcomed Real Madrid legend and Brazilian star Marcelo Vieira to their team on Monday evening.

As the new recruit made his way into the pitch at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in the port of Piraeus, he was accompanied by his wife and two sons.

The 2021/22 Greek Super League champions – Olympiacos announced two days ago that they have signed a contract with the former Real Madrid star – Marcelo.

He received the same jersey number 12 he wore for the past 16 seasons at Real Madrid.

The volume of support from spectators was almost insane when they saw the Brazilian and he felt welcomed to a new home. It can only be likened to how international stars are received at the Bernabeu.

After the formal aspect of the unveiling, the 34-year-old went back to the locker room to bid the Olympiacos fans good night. Both the player and the club’s supporters found it to be a night they will never forget.

“Thank you. I am very happy and satisfied. My family too. I hope to help the team with great devotion. Let’s go, Olympiakos.” – Marcelo told the fans.

The attacking defender was recruited on Saturday, though the contract terms were not made public, but according to Greek sports websites, he signed a one-year deal with an additional year as option

Between 2006 and 2018, the left-back has represented Brazil in 58 matches, including the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

Olympiakos, currently the Greek Superleague champions for the third time in a row are aiming for a record-breaking 48th championship this season.
